History of House of Prayer
In 1952, A.M. McAfee and other
like-minded individuals were led to form a non-denominational
fellowship for the worship of our Lord and Saviour. A. M.
McAfee, W.E. Kelly, Charlie Kelly, Clarence Helton, and
Joe Brackett met in the home of Howard Atkins to makek plans
to form the Church they felt called to establish. It was
determined that the property and the fiscal affairs of the
Church would be controlled by a five member Board of Trustees.
In order to have continuity of purpose, it was determined
that the Trustees would appoint successors to fill any vacancies
which might arise in the Board. The
congregation would determine all other matters of Church
organization, including the selection of the Pastor with
the approval of the Trustee Board. The doctrine of the Church
would be: 1) no book but the bible; 2) no law but love;
and 3) no membership but fellowship. Based upon these principles,
the Church was founded, the property donated, and the work
of the Lord has flourished. A.M. McAfee, Luther Murphy,
and Joe Brackett, individually or through their heirs, donated
and dedicated the property on which the Church now stands.
W. E. Kelly and Charlie Kelley purchased, donated, and dedicated
the property on which the Church Camps is located. The initial
Trustees selected were A.M. McAfee, W.E. Kelley, Charlie
Kelley, Clarence Helton, and Joe Brackett. In 1953, Rev.
D.D. Kinnersley was asked to serve as the first Pastor of
the new Church.
The Future . . .
is unforeseeable but predictable. As God's people move and
minister in a selfless service of love, He is glorified!
Some one said, "the darker the night the brighter the
Light." We are looking for our Lord to return, but
we dare not become lazy or inactive! Called to impact our
world for Christ, we go forth as His Ambassadors into a
needy world. By wise counsel and brave leadership we launch
the ministries of the House of Prayer out into the "deep",
and anticipate catching a "draught" of men, women,
boys and girls for Jesus.
